The Lexington-Fayette Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting a special event of music and engagement.
Join us as we welcome guest speaker and musician Dr. Kathy W. Bullock for Singing in the Spirit: The African American Sacred Music Tradition. Dr. Bullock is an educator, scholar, singer, accompanist, arranger, and choral conductor who specializes in gospel music, spirituals, and classical works by composers from the African diaspora. A Professor Emerita of Music from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, she is currently teaching, performing, and conducting workshops and other programs on African American music throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa. "Spirituals and gospel music are much more than pleasing songs to listen to-they are powerful representations of the triumphant spirit and faith that have defined African-American music and people."
Join us at the Lexington Public Library's Marksbury Branch on 2197 Versailles Road for this special event presentation.
Please RSVP to let us know who is going to be in attendance. Because of room capacity and fire code enforcement, capacity is limited to 100 people max in the space. To respect the laws and the wonderful space in the Marksbury Branch, we will be mindful to monitor the number of people in the space to prevent over-capacity, however, folks are free to come and go as needed.
This event is FREE and Open to the Public. We look forward to seeing you!
